Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of NoFootprint — private, solar-powered AI. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
The hosted service at nofootprint.chat is operated by Universal Basic Inc ("NoFootprint", "we", "us"). If you run NoFootprint on your own hardware, these Terms cover your use of any cloud services we provide; you are responsible for your own instance.
1. Who can use NoFootprint
You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age in your country) and able to form a binding contract. If you are under 18, you may use it only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian. The service produces AI-generated content and is not intended for children.
2. Your account
- Provide accurate registration information and keep it current.
- Keep your password secure; you're responsible for activity under your account.
- Tell us promptly (devteam@universalbasicinc.com) if you suspect unauthorized use.
- One person per account; don't share credentials or resell access.
3. Acceptable use
Use NoFootprint lawfully and within our Content Policy, which is part of these Terms. You agree not to:
- Generate or solicit content prohibited by the Content Policy (e.g. CSAM, content sexualizing minors, instructions for serious harm, targeted hate).
- Break the law, infringe others' rights, or violate others' privacy.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or gain unauthorized access to the service or its infrastructure.
- Use the service to build a competing model by mass-extracting outputs, or misrepresent AI output as human-authored where that deceives or harms.
- Resell or sublicense the service without our written permission.
We use automated safety filtering and a reporting tool, and may remove content or suspend access for violations.
4. AI output — important
NoFootprint generates responses with AI and automated web search. Output can be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or wrong — including about current events — and may occasionally be offensive or unexpected. We strive for accuracy (and design the assistant to say when it isn't sure), but you should independently verify anything important and not rely on output as professional advice. NoFootprint does not provide legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice. Decisions you make based on output are your responsibility.
5. Your content
You keep all rights to the content you input and to the output you generate ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited licence to host, process, and transmit Your Content solely to operate the service for you (e.g. storing your chat history, running your tool requests). We do not sell Your Content and do not use it to train AI models. You are responsible for Your Content and for having the rights to submit it. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle data.
6. Subscriptions & billing
- NoFootprint may offer free and paid plans. Paid subscriptions (currently $10/month or $99/year) are billed through our payment processor, Stripe; we don't store your card details.
- Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
- You can cancel anytime from Settings → Subscription; cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current paid period.
- Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable; we don't provide partial-period refunds. We may offer refunds at our discretion.
- We may change prices or plan features with reasonable advance notice; changes apply to the next billing period. Prices exclude taxes unless stated.
7. Service availability & changes
We work to keep NoFootprint available and reliable, but it is provided on an "as available" basis. It runs on solar-powered hardware we operate; we may perform maintenance, and may add, change, or discontinue features. We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service.
8. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that output will be accurate or reliable.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, NoFootprint and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or USD $50. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless NoFootprint and its operator from claims, damages, and expenses arising from your misuse of the service or your violation of these Terms or others' rights.
11. Termination
You may stop using NoFootprint and delete your account at any time from within the app. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or the Content Policy, or to comply with the law or protect the service or its users. You can export your data before deleting (see the Privacy Policy).
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the service evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the app. Continuing to use NoFootprint after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree to resolve disputes in the courts of the State of Ohio, United States, unless applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
